How to delete local or cloud recordings in Zoom

Once the recordings have been processed, you can delete them from your local or cloud storage.

Once your local or cloud recordings have been processed, you can delete the created MP4, M4A, VTT, CC.VTT and TXT files. Recordings stored locally on your computer can be deleted, while recordings stored in the Zoom cloud must be deleted via the Zoom web portal.

How to delete local recordings

  1. Open the Zoom desktop client on your computer and sign in.
  2. Click the Meetings tab on the left side of the screen.
  3. You can find the recorded version of the meeting under the Recorded tab, which you can select by clicking there.
    Remarks:
    • On the local recording page, you can view the file path and options to play and delete the recording.
    • There is a chance that the recording you are looking for is an online recording if you only see the Open option.
  4. It is possible to permanently delete the recording from your computer by clicking the Delete button.

How to delete cloud recordings

There are three different types of cloud recordings in your account: all recordings in your searches, all recordings in your cloud recordings, and recordings for a specific meeting. Regardless of whether a user or an admin deletes a user or their cloud recordings, you may be wondering what happens to their cloud recordings when they do so.

  1. You can access the Zoom web portal by logging into your account.
  2. Choose one of the following options from the navigation menu:
    • Admin: In the Account Management section, click Recordings Management and then click Manage Recordings. In the account you will see a list of the cloud recordings you have created.
    • User: From the Recordings menu, click the Recordings button.
    • Your cloud recordings will appear in a list for you to choose from.

How to delete cloud recordings by meeting ID (select recordings)

  1. Recording management can be accessed from this page.
  2. You can search for a specific ID by selecting Search by ID next to the search box.
  3. You can find the meeting by entering the meeting ID in the search box.
  4. You can delete the record by clicking More in the last column and then clicking Delete.
  5. To move the recordings to the recycle bin, you must confirm your decision with Yes.

How to delete all cloud recordings in a search result

  1. Recording management can be accessed from this page.
  2. After entering the desired date range and search criteria, click the Search button to start the search process.
  3. There is a check box in the header of the table that can be clicked to activate the check box.
  4. To delete the selected items, click the Delete Selected button.
  5. The recordings will then be moved to the trash when you click Yes to confirm.

How to delete all cloud recordings

  1. Recording management can be accessed from this page.
  2. You need to customize the date range and status before clicking the search button.
    • From: Do not enter any information.
    • To:Please select today’s date.
    • From the Status drop-down menu, select All Statuses.
  3. There is a check box in the header of the table that needs to be checked.
  4. Click the Delete Selected button.
  5. The recordings will be moved to Trash after you click Yes to confirm.

How to delete specific cloud recording files

  1. Recording Management can be accessed here.
  2. To delete recording files from a meeting topic, click the topic you want to delete the recordings from.
  3. If you hover over the recording files listed below as part of the section, The recording contains the files listed below, you can click the trash can icon under that section.
  4. The recordings will be automatically moved to the recycle bin if you click Yes to confirm.

How to schedule cloud recordings for automatic deletion

A cloud recording can be scheduled to be automatically deleted after a specified number of days based on a specified time period. We only perform an automatic deletion process once a day. Because of this, it is possible that the recordings may not qualify for the automatic deletion process when it takes place on our servers, as there are only a few days left. Therefore, it is common for automatic deletion to occur one day after the specified number of days have elapsed.

What happens to the files in the cloud when a user deletes their cloud recordings or when an administrator deletes a user? Find out what happens to them when these events occur.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal by entering your email address and password.
  2. You can select one of the following actions from the navigation menu:
    • You can change settings for the entire account by clicking Account Management and then Account Settings if you are the account owner or admin.
    • Admins and account owners who want to change settings for a group of users should click User Management, then Group Management, and then select the appropriate group name from the list when doing so.
      Note: You may notice that the Groups Management page has been renamed to Groups if you signed up for a new Zoom account after August 21, 2021. or you have activated the new admin experience in your Zoom account.
    • Click Settings if you are a licensed host.
  3. Go to the Recording tab and click on it.
  4. Use the toggle switch to enable or disable the option to delete cloud recordings after a specified number of days. The number of days should be specified.
  5. The change is verified by clicking Enable or Disable when a verification dialog box appears.
    Note: Grayed out options indicate that they have been locked at the account level and need to be changed at that level if grayed out.
  6. Alternatively, if you want to prevent users from changing a setting in your account or group, click the lock icon in the sidebar of the window, and then click the Lock button. This prevents them from changing your account or group settings.

How to delete cloud recordings from your trash folder

Click the trash can icon in the upper-right corner of the recording management page to view trashed files. The storage limits for cloud recordings do not apply to files that are thrown into the recycle bin. It is likely that there are no files in your Recycle Bin if you do not have access to the Recycle Bin option. When a user deletes a cloud recording, or when an administrator deletes a user, the files associated with those recordings do the following.

How to delete cloud recordings from your Trash folder by meeting ID

  1. In the search field, enter the meeting ID and click the “Search” button.
  2. To delete an individual meeting, click the delete button to the right of the meeting name. There is also an option to use the checkboxes to select multiple meetings and then click the Delete button to delete them all.

How to delete all cloud recordings from your trash folder

  1. On the top right side of the screen you will find a button that says Empty Trash.
  2. To permanently delete all files, you must click Empty to confirm your decision.

How to restore cloud recordings from your trash folder

There is a chance that you can restore cloud recordings from your Trash folder. If you are an admin or a user deleting a user from the cloud, you need to know what happens to the cloud recording files in this case.
