How to enable peer-to-peer connection for 2 people in a meeting in the Zoom app

In a one-on-one call, account holders and administrators can configure data routing between two participants instead of going through the cloud or server before data is routed between the two participants. This setting lets you control how much video and audio is sent directly to both parties in a one-on-one call at the same time (depending on how your network prioritizes traffic), improving the quality and connection of the meeting.

It will work by using Zoom’s cloud infrastructure instead of using peer-to-peer connections when a third party joins a one-on-one call over Zoom.

The following topics are covered in this article:

  • Enabling peer-to-peer connection while only 2 people are in a meeting
  • Changing the listening port range

Requirements for enabling peer-to-peer connection while only 2 people are in a meeting

  • Ownership or administrative privileges for an account

Enabling peer-to-peer connection while only 2 people are in a meeting

To enable peer-to-peer connectivity for all users in the account, even if there are only 2 people in a meeting:

  1. Admins with permission to edit account settings must log in to the Zoom web portal as an admin.
  2. You can access your account settings by clicking Account Management in the navigation pane.
  3. On the Meetings tab, click the Add Meeting button.
  4. It’s important that you verify that peer-to-peer connectivity is enabled in the In Meeting (Advanced) section, even if there are only two people in the meeting.
  5. It is possible to enable the setting by clicking the toggle button when it is disabled. If a change needs to be reviewed, a confirmation dialog box appears. So be sure to click Turn On to confirm the change.

Changing the listening port range

As a communication endpoint, the listening port is used to identify applications and processes currently active on the network and to listen for potential connections between them. It is recommended to use a port range between 1 and 65535 when setting up a peer-to-peer connection with only two people in a meeting environment.

Changing the listening port range is as easy as following steps:

  1. Make sure peer-to-peer connectivity is enabled in the meeting when there are only two people present.
  2. If you want to listen to a range of ports, check the box.
  3. The range of values that can be entered in the fields is from 1 to 65535.
  4. Save the changes by clicking the Save button.
