How to recognize gestures in the Zoom app
The gesture recognition engine can be used by participants to provide more visual feedback through gestures. A gesture can be translated into Zoom reactions in real-time via this feature, allowing users to view an appropriate meeting reaction when a visual gesture is performed, e.g. B. raising a hand during a meeting or webinar. This feature also allows users to more easily respond during a meeting or webinar. At the moment, this feature is only available for Raise Hand ✋ and Thumbs Up 👍 reactions.
Admins and account owners can choose to enable or disable this feature. You can also lock this feature. When enabled for accounts and groups, gesture recognition is disabled by default, but when specific settings are configured for Meeting Responses and Webinar Responses, gesture recognition is enabled by default.

window | macOS

- I want to ask for your support so I raise my hand in a thumbs up gesture or raise my hand.
- Make sure you hold the gesture for a few seconds to allow the recipient to recognize it.
Meeting/Webinar Responses appear above the Reactions button in the meeting toolbar for that meeting/webinar.
iOS
- With a compatible iPad, you can join a Zoom meeting or a Zoom webinar
- You can do this by raising your hand and making an upward motion.
- Please wait a few moments for the gesture to be recognized, ie for your gesture to be recognised.
Above the Reactions button in the meeting toolbar, you will see a reaction for the corresponding online meeting and webinar.
Notes on using gesture recognition
- During the gesture, the video image of the zoom video camera must be visible and the movement must be within the video image.
- You should only position one hand in front of you and not touch any other part of your body.
- The thumb should be in an upright position at all times when the “thumbs up” response is being shown.
- It’s better to put your right hand on the right side of the screen when using the raise hand reaction and your left hand on the left side of the screen when using the speak reaction. In both cases, it is recommended that you face the camera with your palm down and flat on your hand. You’ll get a notification when the gesture is recognized, so you can stop it immediately if you don’t want to continue.
