How to stop all incoming video in a meeting or webinar in Zoom

It’s easy to stop all incoming video feeds when you need to conserve bandwidth for shared content or don’t want to be mentally drained by watching a video with multiple participants. It won’t affect the others and they won’t be affected by it, but it will affect your perception of the meeting.

Requirements to stop all incoming videos

  • Zoom desktop client
    • For Windows: 5.8.0 or higher
    • For macOS: 5.8.0 or higher
    • For Linux: 5.8.0 or higher
  • Mobile Zoom app
    • For Android: 5.8.0 or higher
    • For iOS: 5.8.0 or later
  • Zoom web client

Account

You can enable or disable the Stop Incoming Videos feature for all users in your account using the following instructions:

  1. If you want to edit Zoom account settings, you must log in to the Zoom web portal as an administrator.
  2. You need to click on the Account Management tab in the navigation bar and then click on Account Settings.
  3. The Meeting tab is displayed.
  4. If you want to disable the feature, enable it by clicking the Enable switch “Stop incoming video” under In-Meeting (Advanced).
  5. Click Enable or Disable when a confirmation dialog box appears to confirm the change was made.
  6. Clicking the lock icon (or clicking lock to confirm) to make this setting common to all users in your account is an option for users who want to make this setting mandatory.

group

If you want to enable or disable the Stop Incoming Videos feature for a group of users, please do the following:

  1. Admins with permission to edit groups should log in to the Zoom web portal as an admin.
  2. After clicking User Management, you can select Group Management.
  3. Select the appropriate group from the list of groups.
  4. Then click the Meeting tab.
  5. Under At Meeting (Advanced), click the Enable stop incoming video switch to turn it on or off.
  6. To accept or reject the change, click Enable or Disable when a confirmation dialog box appears.
    Note: A greyed out option indicates that the account level has already been locked and if the account level has been locked it should be changed there.
  7. By clicking the lock icon, this setting can be made mandatory for all group members. Whatever you decide, you need to confirm the setting by clicking the lock icon.

user

Depending on how you want to use the Stop Incoming Video feature, the following steps can be taken:

  1. You need to log in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. Go to the Settings section of the navigation pane.
  3. Go to the Meetings section.
  4. The Stop Incoming Video feature can be enabled or disabled under In-Meeting (Advanced) by turning on the Stop Incoming Video switch.
  5. Click Enable or Disable to verify the changes made when a verification dialog box appears.
    Note:
  6. Generally, if an icon in the toolbar is greyed out, it means that it has been locked by the group or account it belongs to. For more information, please contact your Zoom administrator.

desktop clients

For the desktop clients, you can enable or disable the Stop Incoming Video feature by typing the following commands:

  1. Sign up for a Zoom account using the desktop client.
  2. Go to the Zoom settings page by clicking on your profile picture.
  3. Click the Video tab.
  4. To enable or disable the Stop incoming video feature, check the box next to Enable stop incoming video.

Note: Using this setting in a meeting requires that the web portal settings as well as the desktop client settings are enabled. The mobile client does not offer any additional settings. As long as you enable this in the web settings, the mobile app will make them available while you are in meetings you join from the mobile app.

Pause incoming video

window | macOS | Linux

  1. You can start a meeting or join an existing one.
  2. You can stop the video by clicking Stop incoming video at the top right and then click View.
  3. Alternatively, you can click View again, select Start incoming video, and then stop the video again.

Android | iOS

  1. Join a meeting or start a new one.
  2. In the meeting controls, you can select More from the meeting options.
  3. Choose the Settings button.
  4. Tap the switch next to the Stop incoming video option to turn it off.
  5. Videos can be resumed by toggling the toggle next to Stop incoming video to enable it.

web client

  1. A meeting can be started or joined from the web client.
  2. Just click on the More option in the meeting control window.
  3. On the Video tab, click Stop incoming video.
