How to test audio before Zoom meetings in the Zoom app
Joining the audio meeting can be done in two different ways: by joining the meeting via computer or by joining the meeting by phone. The following sections will help you test your audio before and after joining a meeting, if you wish.
There is also an option to join a test meeting if you want to test your audio and get familiar with the meeting controls.

- A microphone, such as that built into a smartphone, a USB microphone, or an in-line microphone built into headphones

Test audio before joining a meeting
You can test your speaker and microphone before joining a meeting by clicking the links below if you have not enabled the setting to automatically join the meeting via computer audio:
- You can test your speaker and microphone after joining a meeting by clicking Test speaker and microphone.
- It is possible to test your speakers during the meeting by opening a pop-up window. The ringtone is not heard when you use the dropdown menu or click No to switch speakers until the ringtone is heard. Please click the Yes button if you wish to continue with the microphone test.
- Use the drop down menu to select a microphone or select No to switch to the other microphone and hear the response if you don’t hear one. If you hear the replay, make sure you click Yes when you hear it.
- To exit the speaker and microphone test, you must click Connect to computer audio.
- It is possible to join the test meeting by joining with computer audio by clicking Join with computer audio.
Test audio with audio settings
To test the audio during or before a meeting, you should navigate to your audio settings and follow these steps:
In preparation for a meeting
- Open the Zoom client and sign in.
- You can change your profile settings by clicking your profile picture and then Settings.
- To access the Audio tab, click the Audio button.
- If you want to test the speaker or microphone on your computer, follow the sections below.
As part of a meeting
If you’re already in a meeting, you can access your audio settings and test your audio.
- To mute/unmute a participant, click the arrow next to Mute/Unmute in the meeting controls.
- You can open your audio settings by clicking the Audio Options button.
Check your computer speakers
- You can play a test tone by clicking the Test Speaker button.
- The best way to hear it is to select a different speaker from the menu or adjust the volume if you can’t hear it.

Adjusting your computer microphone
- Whenever Zoom is recording audio from a microphone, you’ll see a green bar showing the input level moving in the Microphone section.
- You can test your microphone by clicking the “Test Microphone” button.
- Once you start recording audio, your recording will begin. Once you’re done, click the Record button and it will play back what you’ve recorded. In addition, the input level can be adjusted or a different microphone can be selected from the menu.
- It is possible for Zoom to automatically adjust the input volume if you select the Automatically adjust microphone settings check box.

Troubleshooting your microphone
- The microphone is not accessible on Mac OS 10.14 Mojave or earlier because your operating system permissions do not allow Zoom to access the microphone. - You can use the Windows search box to navigate to the microphone privacy settings if you cannot access the microphone on Windows 10. Zoom may be able to access your microphone if you turn on the Allow apps to access your microphone toggle and then allow it access. The troubleshooting instructions provided by Microsoft can give you more information about this problem.

Before or during a meeting, you can perform an audio test by navigating to your audio settings: In preparation for a meeting

- Clicking on your profile picture will take you to your settings.

To join a meeting,
You can test your speaker and microphone before joining a meeting if you haven’t turned on the setting to automatically join a meeting using computer audio.
- You can test the speaker and microphone after joining a meeting. The audio settings will open once you click this button.
- Follow the steps below to test your speaker or microphone.
As part of a meeting
If you’re already in a meeting, you can access your audio settings and test your audio while you’re there.
- You can find the Mute/Unmute option in the meeting controls by clicking the arrow next to it.
- You can change your audio settings by clicking the Audio Options button.

Check your computer speakers
- You can play a sound by clicking the Test Speakers button.
- Choose a different speaker from the menu if you can’t hear it, or adjust the output volume if you can’t hear it.

Adjusting your computer microphone
- While Zoom is recording audio, you’ll see a blue input level bar that moves when you’re in the microphone area.
- It is possible to select a different microphone from the menu if Zoom cannot record your microphone, or adjust the input level if Zoom cannot record your microphone.
- It is possible for Zoom to automatically adjust the input volume if you select the Automatically adjust microphone settings option.

Android
Join a meeting with device audio
- It’s possible you may be asked to allow access to your microphone if this is the first Zoom meeting you’ve ever attended.
- When you join the meeting, you’ll be asked which audio option you want to use to join the meeting audio. The options are as follows:
- Call over device audio: Provides an online connection for audio.
- Dial-in: The Zoom Meeting offers the option of dialing into the Zoom Meeting via a telephone line.
- Call my phone: Join the meeting by calling your phone number. To host a meeting, the meeting host must have an audio plan.
- You can reopen the command prompt by tapping audio if you choose Cancel instead of Cancel.
- The microphone icon appears in the lower left corner of your device after you connect to mute and unmute the microphone.
- You have the option to disconnect the audio from the call by tapping More and then Disconnect Audio if you need to connect the audio using another method.
iOS
Join a meeting with device audio
- You’ll be prompted to allow access to your microphone if this is your first Zoom meeting you’re joining.
- When you join the meeting, you will be prompted to join the audio when you join the meeting.
- In terms of audio options, you can choose from:
- Call over Internet Audio: By using the Internet, audio can be connected by using
- Dial in: Allows you to dial in to the Zoom meeting by phone to join
- Call my phone: Join the meeting by calling your phone number. The meeting host needs an audio plan to join the meeting
- If you tap Join Audio again at the prompt, you can return to the prompt if you choose Cancel.
- In the bottom left corner of the screen you will see the microphone icon, which you can use to mute or unmute the recording once connected.
- By tapping More and then tapping Disconnect Audio, you can disconnect the audio if you want to reconnect the audio using a different method.
