Sending videos in Zoom chat
Chat allows team members to easily communicate and exchange messages, images, files, and videos right in the chat window (including audio). Streamlining your workflow within Zoom becomes even easier since you don’t (in many cases) need to open the video in a program other than Zoom.
Requirements for sending video files in a chat message
- Client for Zoom on the desktop
- The latest version of Windows is 5.7.3 or higher
- A Mac running 5.7.3 or later is required
- App for Zoom on mobile devices
- Android version must be 5.7.3 or higher
- The iOS version must be 5.7.3 or higher
- Administrators can enable chat
- The following file types and sizes are supported:
- M4V, M4A and MOV
- A maximum file size of 30 MB is allowed
Remarks:
- The videos you send from the mobile app are transcoded to MP4 files (H.264 compression and ACC stereo audio) with a maximum resolution of 720p and you can watch them in full screen.
- It is possible for account owners and admins to set up file transfer controls so their users can only send and receive files of a certain file type and file size limit.
How to send a video in Zoom chat
Window
- Sign in to your account using the Zoom desktop client.
- You can find the chat tab on the left side of the screen.
- The video file needs to be sent to the chat room the file needs to be sent to.
- The file can be dragged into the chat box by clicking and dragging over the chat box.
- You must select the source of the file.
Remarks:- The video is sent as a link to the video file, which means it cannot be played in the desktop client if shared from a third-party service.
- Files larger than 30MB will be sent as a regular file transfer, while files larger than 30MB will be sent as a regular video file transfer that needs to be downloaded and opened with another video application.
- Choose the file you want to send by browsing the file system and selecting it from the list.
It is possible to cancel the upload process by clicking Cancel or X while the file is uploading. - (Optional) The file can be accompanied by any text.
- To send the message, just press Enter.
Once the video has been uploaded it will be made available to those who have received a link to view it. When the video has been downloaded, click the play button to start playing. Video controls are standard, including:
- Play / Pause : The video can be started or paused.
- Elapsed Time/Total Video Length: Displays the total length of the video file and the elapsed time of video playback.
- Playback Slider: The video playback range can be skipped to other points.
- Volume : Easily adjust the volume of shared videos.
- Expand : Enlarges the video on the desktop client.
- Full screen: You can watch the video in full screen mode.
macOS
- Open the Zoom desktop client and sign in with your Zoom account.
- Select the Chat tab on the left side of the screen.
- In order to send the video file, you must first open the chat where you want the file to be sent.
- It is possible to select file from the menu above the chat window, or you can go to the file and drag it into the chat window.
- You can select the source of the file by clicking on it.
Remarks:- The video is shared as a link to the video file in the desktop client where it can be played, but it cannot be played if you share it from a third-party service.
- If the file is larger than 30MB, it will be sent as a regular file transfer, which you will need to download and open with another video application if it exceeds the 30MB file size limit.
- Choose the file you want to send by browsing the file system and selecting.
You can cancel the upload at any time by clicking Cancel or X while the file is uploading. - If you want to add any text to the file, please enter it here (optional).
Note: - If you click and drag the file into the text entry field or select the file via the system file browser, you can add accompanying text. Drag the file into an existing chat window to start the upload.
- Send the message by pressing Enter.

- Play / Pause : The video can be started or paused.
- Elapsed Time/Total Video Length: Displays the total length of the video file and the elapsed time of video playback.
- Playback Slider : Allows you to switch to a different playback point in the video.
- Volume : The volume of the shared video can be adjusted.
- Expand : Enlarges the video on the desktop client.
- Full Screen: In full screen mode, you can watch the video in full.
Android
- The Zoom mobile app is available for download.
- Open the chat where the video file needs to be sent.
- Just tap the plus sign.
- Select a file or album to send.
- You can select a file to send by browsing and tapping it. You can upload files immediately.
- You can see the video in the chat window. To download and watch the video, tap the preview.
When the video is uploaded, you can send it to the people who can see it. After downloading the video, click the play button to start playing. Video controls are standard, such as:
- game break :
- The video can be started or stopped.
- Elapsed Time/Total Video Length:
- Play time and total file size are displayed along with the current time.
- Playback slider:
- The video playback range can be skipped to other points.
You can use the ellipsis button in the middle of the screen to view other options such as B. Open with another app, which allows you to open the video in another available app on your device.
iOS
- On your mobile device, open the Zoom app and sign in with your Zoom account.
- Open the chat you want to send the video file to.
- The plus sign appears when you tap it.
- Select Send file or photo album.
- Select the file you want to send from the list and tap on it.
- The file can be accompanied by any text of your choice (optional).
- Click the Submit button.
- In the chat window you can see the video. To download the video and start playing, just tap on the video preview to start the download process.
Once the video has been uploaded, those to whom the video has been sent can view it. Tapping the play button will start downloading the video and when it has downloaded start watching the video. It is possible to control the video in several ways including:
- Play / Pause : The video can be played or paused.
- Video Elapsed Time/Total Length: Displays the length of the video file and the elapsed time since it was created.
- Playback slider: You can jump to a different point by changing the playback range.
- Volume : The volume of the shared video can be adjusted.
- Full Screen: The video can be viewed in full screen mode.
Open the video in another app by tapping the ellipsis button, which allows it to be played in another app on the device.
