Set up a classic companion whiteboard in a Zoom room

There are two types of companion whiteboards: classic whiteboards, which can be deployed to an existing Zoom Room and used as a dedicated whiteboard, allowing in-room and remote participants to interact and collaborate on documents. Companion whiteboards require no additional audio or video peripherals; You only need a touchscreen display that supports Windows to work.

How to set up a classic companion whiteboard

Make sure your system supports classic companion whiteboards before attempting to set up a classic companion whiteboard.

You can add a classic companion whiteboard to your Zoom Room display after setting up the display:

1. Companion whiteboard device must be enrolled in Zoom Rooms for Touch to function.
2. To add the Classic Companion Whiteboard to the Zoom Room, select the Zoom Room you want to add it to, then click Next.
   Note: Please ensure you select a room that has a Zoom Rooms display set up.
3. The Companion Whiteboard can be accessed by tapping it.
   For Zoom Rooms, the device connects to the selected room and the whiteboard appears on the screen. In case the classic companion whiteboard is not used, the following screensaver appears in its place.
   

How to use the classic whiteboard controls

There are all the regular classic whiteboard controls on the companion classic whiteboard too. In addition, companion whiteboards offer a number of options more specific to them:

• CLOSE: The following options are displayed.
  • Erase and Hibernate: The whiteboard drawings are erased and the screen saver appears in their place.
  • Back to the whiteboard: I want to return to the whiteboard.
• You can view these options by clicking the ellipse icon.
  • Info: The version number is displayed on the screen.
  • Reboot: Reboot the companion device connected to the whiteboard. Room passcode may be required upon check-in.
  • Exit Zoom Rooms: Make sure Zoom Rooms is closed by closing the application. The room passcode may need to be entered when prompted.
  • Sign Out: The current Zoom account must be signed out in order to sign out. Using this method is useful when you no longer want to use the device as a companion whiteboard; or if you want to set up the companion whiteboard with a different Zoom account than the one you’re currently using.
• START SHARE / STOP SHARE (only visible during a meeting): It is possible to share the whiteboard in the Zoom meeting by starting or stopping it.
• When a meeting participant starts screen sharing, the following buttons appear in the presentation: SWITCH TO CONTENT / SWITCH TO WHITEBOARD: It is recommended to show either the whiteboard or a participant’s shared screen.

How to share the classic companion whiteboard in a meeting

If you are in a meeting at the same time and the classic companion whiteboard is active, you can click START SHARE at the bottom right to share the whiteboard with the other participants in the meeting.

If you draw on the whiteboard before starting or joining a meeting, you cannot share that whiteboard with other participants. To share the whiteboard with others, click the START SHARE button in the lower-right corner of the screen.

How to remove a classic companion whiteboard

1. In the whiteboard controls, you have the option to tap the ellipse icon.
2. After tapping Sign out, you will be prompted to sign out.
