How to enable subtitles in TikTok

To make it easier for you to understand the videos of other users on TikTok, you can activate subtitles at any time. These are automatically generated by TikTok and are therefore not always error-free – but they are generally sufficient for understanding.

TikTok: Turn on automatic subtitles
Step 1:
Open the TikTok app and hold your finger on the video that is playing until a menu appears. Then tap the ” Aa ” symbol.
Step 2:
You can then enable subtitles by toggling the switch next to the ” Show subtitles ” option.
Step 3:
Tap ” Translate to ” to further customize the subtitles. You can then select a desired language in which you want your subtitles to be displayed and translated.
Step 4:
Under ” Do not translate ” you can select all the languages ​​that you do not want to translate in the subtitles. So if you select German and English, for example, the subtitles will be shown in German or English, depending on which language is spoken in a video. However, all other languages ​​will then be translated into English if you selected this under ” Translate to “.
Step 5:
The subtitles will then be active for every video until you turn them off again using the slider.
Create subtitles for your own TikTok videos

TikTok: Create subtitles for your own video
Step 1:
Open TikTok on your smartphone and tap the plus icon at the bottom center to create a new video.
Step 2:
Then record your video or upload a video from your gallery.
Step 3:
Then, while editing your TikTok, tap the small arrow on the right edge of the screen to expand the menu bar.
Step 4:
Here, tap the ” Subtitles ” option.
Step 5:
Now wait until the subtitles have been generated. You can then tap the current language on the left to change it.

There are over 20 different languages ​​available.

You can further customize your subtitles using the various icons on the right. Tap the pencil icon to edit the text of the automatically generated subtitles and correct any errors.

With the ” A ” symbol you can change the appearance of your subtitles. In addition to the color and font, you can also choose the orientation and background of the text.

When you’re done with your subtitles, tap ” Save ” in the top right corner.

You can now move the subtitles on your video. To do this, press and hold the text to move it and use your second finger to make the text larger or smaller .

Quick guide: Enable automatic subtitles
- Press and hold a TikTok until a menu appears.
- Then tap the ” Aa ” icon to open the subtitle settings .
- Then enable the ” Show subtitles ” option.
- Translate to allows you to select a language in which your subtitles will be displayed and translated.
